AVO has launched a new Qualified Electrical Equipment Maintenance Worker Program — a 2-day or 4-day course designed for electrical equipment maintenance workers at varying experience levels.
The new courses are in support of the NETA Qualified Electrical Equipment Maintenance Company (QEMC) and Qualified Electrical Equipment Maintenance Worker (QEMW) program.
"NETA’s new qualification program is in response to the recently ANSI-approved NFPA 70B® Standard, making proper electrical equipment maintenance mandatory and enforceable. The NETA QEMC and QEMW program is intended to meet the anticipated demand for vetted, qualified electrical equipment maintenance companies and workers. The vetting process includes a company review and the testing of the company's electrical maintenance workers," states NETA in describing the program. AVO’s newly developed preparatory training courses for technicians were developed in collaboration with NETA and are specifically designed to help students succeed on NETA’s QEMW exam.

Substation Maintenance is a major part of any utility or plant maintenance program. Equipment failures usually result in significant downtime because of long delays in equipment replacement. However, most of these failures can be detected and prevented. Equipment testing and maintenance is critical to the reliability of the equipment in a substation.
This course provides an overview of substation equipment, and equipment operations and maintenance based on ASTM, NETA and IEEE standards. This course is designed to provide an in-depth study to aid skilled qualified substation maintenance technicians in the safe performance of substation components preventive maintenance. Having skilled technicians in substation maintenance is essential to equipment reliability.
Learning objectives:
- Describe safe practices and safety standards that are required of a Qualified Electrical Equipment Maintenance Worker.
- Explain the electrical maintenance fundamentals that are required of a Qualified Electrical Equipment Maintenance Worker.
- Summarize requirements for maintenance on specific electrical equipment.

NETA QEMW Exam Test Prep | NETA QUALIFIED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE WORKER PROGRAM 4-DAY | VIRTUAL
4 DAYS
Developed by AVO Training Institute in collaboration with NETA, this course offers an in-depth review of electrical maintenance and safety practices tailored for NETA-qualified professionals with over four years of experience in the electrical field.
Participants will revisit the key safety and maintenance competencies assessed in the Qualified Electrical Maintenance Worker (QEMW) Exam. A central component of the course is 8 hours of NFPA 70E Safety Training, which fulfills a required prerequisite for the QEMW exam.
This course is ideal for individuals seeking a thorough understanding of electrical safety, core principles, maintenance procedures, and testing practices as outlined by NETA standards. Upon completion, students will be well-prepared to take the QEMW certification exam.
While not required, students are encouraged to bring copies of the NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B standards for reference, or they may purchase them through AVO Training Institute.
