Electricity can be an extremely deadly force that can severely damage the body and can lead to death. Unfortunately many people don’t understand just how dangerous electricity can be even at very low voltages. Below is a graph showing the effects of electricity on the human body at increasing ampere amounts.
As you can see in the graph, the amount of electricity needed to power a 100-watt bulb is enough to kill a person. In the electrical maintenance field, where voltages are extremely high, electrical safety is imperative. The AVO Training Institute offers a number of electrical safety courses to make sure you are safe when you are around or working on low or high-voltage machinery. Those courses include NFPA 70E 2012 Electrical Safety, Electrical Safety for Industrial Facilities, Electrical Safety for Utilities, Electrical Safety for Mining, and National Electrical Code 2011.
