Training Overview
Since 1963, we have trained hundreds of thousands of students in electrical maintenance, power system studies and safety procedures. AVO Training Institute is one of the most recognized and utilized electrical training providers worldwide. Every aspect of our curriculum is designed to facilitate student learning. Hands-on equipment labs, illustrated materials and logical presentation sequence in every course ensure students leave with real skills they can use immediately on the job. As part of each hands-on course, students perform tasks in equipment labs guided by the most talented electrical instructors in the industry. Our courses have maximum student to instructor ratios, so every student gets individual guidance and evaluation. The Continuing Education Units (CEUs) we issue for successful course completion are accredited by the National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) and ISO 9001 certified.
- Courses are available for open enrollment at multiple training locations across the United States and for onsite presentation at your facilities. Subject areas include:
- Battery maintenance
- Cable splicing and testing
- Circuit breaker maintenance
- Electric motor maintenance
- Electrical fundamentals

What our students are saying...
Real hands-on training
Education studies have shown that the average person retains only 10% of what they read, 50% of what they see and hear, but over 90% of what they say and do. No other electrical training provider dedicates the resources we do to ensure each student has hands-on time with the equipment. Our training centers are set up with outdoor substations, buried cable fields, switchgear, motor controls, relays, transformers and more. Every student is even required to successfully perform each task under instructor evaluation in order to pass.
Instructor balance
Finding a person that has extensive experience in the electrical industry isn’t that hard. But finding an experienced person that actually has the skill and passion to effectively teach people is a different story. Often you’ll find training providers that rely on staff with experience or academics alone. But we keep the balance. Our instructors have 20 to 50 years of electrical experience in utility, manufacturing, industrial and commercial industries. Each one of them is hand-picked for their combination of experience and teaching ability. Our instructors are articulate, organized, responsive to student needs and passionate about the topics they teach.
Flexible learning environment
The training process is meant to be flexible. Our students come from a variety of industries and trades, and have varying levels of experience. We don’t do “canned” courses. Our instructors are experts at finding out what each student really needs to fully benefit from a class and making sure they get just that. That’s why we carefully control the instructor to student ratio.
Principles not manufacturers
We always train on the principles of electrical testing and maintenance. Even though we are a subsidiary of Megger, selling equipment is not our objective. We provide non-commercial principles training and simply address unique characteristics of all the major manufacturers of equipment. We train on ANY manufacturer of test equipment or electrical equipment. Omicron®, Doble®, Manta®, AEMC®, Fluke®, Phenix®, ABB®, Schweitzer®, Square D®, Cutler-Hammer®, Eaton®, Powell®, GE®, Westinghouse®…
Recognition
Our courses are approved by the International Electrical Testing Association(NETA) for Continuing Education Units – CEU’s. The Fortune 500 and all U.S. government agencies attend our courses. Pick any industry: we can provide references from the big players. So, no matter where our students end up, the quality of an AVO certification is recognized. And we’ve been training workers since 1963 – we’re not going away.
