History

AVO History

By 1962, Megger® had been making electrical test and measurement equipment for 60 years. They also had realized that technicians needed to fully understand proper and safe use their equipment. That’s where our history starts.

When the Multi-Amp Institute was established in 1963, the focus was training technicians to use Megger equipment. We taught just five courses - oil circuit reclosers, relays, circuit breakers, watthour meters and coordination. However, it quickly became apparent to us that technicians were hungry to learn more. So we restructured as an independent operating division, responsible for our own direction in the industry.

The first thing we knew we had to do was teach methods – not manufacturers. So we developed new courses that used a variety of electrical equipment technologies. Our team grew exponentially as we brought in people with new areas of specialty to develop and teach. Within 10 years, our expertise was being requested for other electrical services. We began developing custom training and maintenance programs and performing on site electrical consulting.

As the result of a rebranding in 1992, the Multi-Amp Institute name changed to AVO Multi-Amp Institute. Then in 1996, our name changed to AVO International and we became ISO 9001 certified. Since 2004, we have been operating as the AVO Training Institute, although we offer more than just training. The name AVO comes from the abbreviation for amps, volts, and ohms - the elements of electricity.

Today, we have trained hundreds of thousands of students and helped thousands of organizations from around the world create safe and reliable electrical systems.
