Shock Risk Assessments
NFPA 70E-2015 130.4 REQUIRES THAT A SHOCK RISK ASSESSMENT BE CONDUCTED
Electric Shock is a dangerous condition associated with the possible release of energy caused by contact with or approach to energized electrical conductors or circuit parts. AVO Training Institute includes a shock hazard analysis as part of its arc flash hazard analysis and shock protection boundaries are printed on the labels. AVO places a high priority on electrical safety and offers a full package of electrical safety services.
Electric shock exposure exists when work is completed in proximity to energized exposed electrical equipment or circuit parts. Only Qualified Persons are allowed inside these shock boundaries, but more importantly, the Restricted and Prohibited Approach Boundaries. There are established Limited Approach Boundary, Restricted Approach Boundary and the Prohibited Approach Boundary. The shock risk increases based on the distance being reduced from the Limited to Prohibited Approach Boundary. Only Qualified Persons are allowed inside these boundaries, and specifically the Restricted and Prohibited Approach Boundaries.
